As public schools face many challenges, the Junior League of Jacksonville has created an outreach program, C.A.R.E.S (Caring, Assistance, Resource, Education Support), with a long term goal of improving the opportunities for public education in Jacksonville. CARES seeks to utilize the Junior League’s resources to focus on enhancing education and literacy opportunities at two Duval County Public Schools, George Washington Carver Elementary School and North Shore Elementary.  Members participate in a hands-on volunteer experience that not only stimulates students academically but also makes a difference with the student’s self-esteem.

JLJ members participate in CARES Initiatives through:

  • Thursday afternoon and Saturday morning Tutoring which provides League members an opportunity to help reduce the teacher to student ratio which allows us to better identify the students’ specific needs.
  • Assisting with a Year-End celebration and Awards ceremony to reward students for their FCAT results.
