Little Black Dress Initiative

Monday, February 6, 2023 - Friday, February 10, 2023

Back for its 8th year, the Junior League of Jacksonville’s (JLJax) Little Black Dress Initiative (LBDI) will harness the power of social media to illustrate the restrictions poverty places on individuals’ options, opportunities, and accessibility to resources in our community. Commencing on February 6th, 2023, this grassroots fundraising campaign consists of JLJax members wearing the same black dress (or outfit) adorned with an “Ask Me About My Dress” button for five consecutive days to help initiate conversation about poverty and food insecurity.

A force for positive change in Northeast Florida since 1923, JLJax is an organization of women with a mission to promote voluntarism, develop the potential of women, and improve the community through the action and leadership of trained volunteers. JLJax’s current signature project focuses on providing access to nutrition education and affordable healthy foods by means of its Fresh Minds Program. This trailblazing community initiative has resulted in the distribution of over 2,576 fresh, well-balanced meals with a nutritional education curriculum to the families of Sanctuary on 8th.Street. While JLJax had an initial goal of providing 5,600 meals by May 2022, donations and community partnerships now have JLJax on track to surpass 6,000 meals!
