2020 Little Black Dress Initiative

During the week of November 2-6, the Junior League of Jacksonville is taking a stand against poverty by holding our annual Little Black Dress Initiative – a campaign to raise awareness of the challenges that face the over 3.2 million Floridians living in poverty. Poverty means living without the financial support to adequately cover shelter, healthcare, food and other essential necessities. As participants, our members will demonstrate the limits that poverty can play on women in our community by wearing one black dress for five working days:

  1. To raise awareness of the difficulties facing those who are in need and have few resources;
  2. To understand how limited resources can affect daily life; and
  3. To fundraise supporting the mission of the JLJ to promote volunteerism, develop the potential of women, and improve the lives of women and children in our community.

Support the Junior League of Jacksonville by making a donation to the Little Black Dress Initiative. Your donation will go directly to the JLJ and will help us continue to serve our mission of developing the potential of women and serving unmet needs in the community.  Our current focus is on combatting food deserts in Jacksonville, by providing nutrition education and affordable healthy foods to some of Jacksonville’s most needy residents.
